Editorial Policy

CureAdvantage is an independent, free resource for physicians, practice managers, medical coders, billers, and revenue cycle staff. We publish guides, reference material, and free tools about medical billing, coding, denials, prior authorization, and healthcare reimbursement. We are not a billing company, and we do not sell billing, coding, or revenue cycle services.

What we publish

Articles are written and reviewed by contributors with working experience in medical billing and coding. Contributor names and stated credentials are listed on our Authors page. We publish material we believe is practically useful to someone doing this work day to day, rather than content written purely to rank in search results.

How we source information

Where a claim depends on a rule, a payment amount, a code, or a regulatory date, we prefer primary and official sources: CMS, HHS and the HHS Office of Inspector General, the Federal Register and eCFR, Medicaid.gov and state Medicaid agencies, the CDC, and published payer policy documents. Where a professional body or research organisation is the originator of a figure — for example the AMA, HFMA, AAPC, KFF, or a peer-reviewed journal — we attribute it to that organisation by name.

When we cannot verify a statistic against a source that actually supports it, we remove the statistic rather than leave it attributed to an organisation that did not publish it. We do not present vendor marketing material as independent research, and where a vendor is the only available source for a figure we say so.

Billing and coding rules change

Code sets, fee schedules, coverage policies, and program rules are revised regularly, and individual payers adopt changes on their own timelines. An article that was accurate when written can be out of date after an annual update or a new final rule. Always confirm current requirements with the payer, the current official code set, and your own compliance staff before you submit, appeal, or change a billing process.

Updates

We revise published articles when the underlying guidance changes or when we find an error. Where an article carries a review or update date, that date reflects the most recent time the content was checked against current sources.
